Chautauqua Institute is located on the south west portion of New York State. The community was originally founded in 1874, as an educational experiment for out-of-school children. Currently there are four pillars governing the institution including arts, religion, education and recreation. During the nine-week summer season a total of over 100,000 people attend scheduled public events. The Chautauquan Daily is the official newspaper of the Institution.
